The Dacre is a major retrofit project in Westminster, transforming a 1970s reinforced concrete office block into an eight-storey contemporary workspace. The scheme involved demolishing the original upper floors and extending the structure vertically to achieve its new height.

The redevelopment includes restaurant and retail units at ground level, with 20,560 sqft of modern office space arranged over seven floors above. Designed with sustainability at its core, the building features cycle storage, shower facilities, and energy-efficient systems throughout, encouraging greener and healthier working habits. Civil and structural engineering design services played a central role in shaping the new layout and functionality.

At the top, a communal roof terrace provides panoramic views towards St James’s Park, creating a standout feature for tenants. The thoughtful reuse of the existing structure, combined with its enhanced workspace offering, has earned The Dacre a place on the shortlist for the Architects’ Journal Retrofit & Reuse: Saved From Demolition Award 2024.
